Job Description Job Description Job Summary The Material Handler 1 is responsible for the efficient and safe handling of materials within a distribution or warehouse environment. This role involves loading and unloading freight, managing inventory, preparing materials for shipment, operating forklifts and other equipment, and adhering to safety and hazardous material regulations. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring compliance with all established procedures and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities • Load and unload freight and materials efficiently. • Operate powered industrial trucks, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. • Use scanners or computer systems to track inventory and material movement. • Select, put away, and locate materials using narrow aisle, wire-guided machines. • Prepare and pack hazardous and non-hazardous materials for shipment according to regulations. • Verify chemicals, catalog numbers, lot numbers, and other details against order documentation. • Perform inventory audits and maintain accuracy in inventory locations. • Print and apply labels and markings on packages to ensure regulatory compliance. • Report unsafe conditions or hazards to supervisors or team leads. • Train new employees and assist team leads with troubleshooting systems issues. • Process goods receipts, schedule dock appointments, and communicate with Procurement about product discrepancies. • Prepare hazardous shipping documentation and maintain shipment records. • Follow good distribution practices (GDP) and all applicable safety regulations. • Perform miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED required. • One year of work experience preferred. • Knowledge of shipping regulations or experience with hazardous materials is helpful. Preferred Qualifications • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. • Proficiency in operating PCs, scanners, printers, and other shipping equipment. • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Experience working with hazardous materials and regulatory compliance is a plus.
